I Got Married During a Pandemic!!!

You read that right.....I got married this year, 2020. The year that was pretty much a complete waste, well, besides getting married. When I got engaged in 2018, I never thought that a few months before the big day I would have to rearrange my entire wedding. As if planning a wedding wasn't stressful enough, Ms. Corona made it even more so!

It was about a month and a half before June 27,2020, the big day, that I decided to call off our large and much anticipated celebration! This was one of the worst days I've experienced as I thought that my special day, the one day that I have dreamed of since I was a little girl, was being ruined and I would never get that special ceremony that we all dream of. I remember being at my soon-to-be in-laws house, FaceTiming my mom as I saw the news that our governor announced there were to be no large gatherings... including weddings! To me, as I'm sure to many of you who have experienced a wedding interrupted by Corona, I was mourning the loss of my perfect wedding. BUT I was determined to still get married this year, and I was not about to push back my entire wedding because Ms. Corona was acting up and we weren't sure when she was going to cool down. So I sat down with Blake, my now husband, and we decided that we would still get married on 06/27/2020, but it would be vastly different than what we had originally envisioned.

The next day, I immediately contacted all of our vendors including our venue, letting them know of our decision, and was hoping and praying that they would be willing to work with us. I've read horror stories that venues and vendors were not working with their bride and grooms that wanted to reschedule their weddings, but thanks to Blake's Irish side, we got lucky! Every single one of our vendors (besides our DJ, who was not available on the day we selected for next year) and our venue were so understanding and accommodating that we now have a date for our reception next year, Sunday June 27, 2021. Now onto ordering new save the dates, which was rushed and became expensive as I was so aggravated that this was happening, but those were ordered and came quickly.

The next part of the Corona Wedding Planning was, where do we get married? Luckily, our venue was super accommodating and allowed us to get married with our immediate family present. Blake's parents were super sweet and offered to host the "reception" for us afterwards, which turned out to be amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate our marriage.

Fast forward to June 27, 2020, I wake up and read my vows from my soon-to-be husband, and let me tell you, he is amazing with his words, similar to a renown blacksmith but instead of a hammer and anvil he uses a pen and paper! Now it's time for my mom and I to go to the salon and get our hair and nails done. The entire day went by in the blink of an eye, I never thought it would, as I've been told from multiple people that the day would come and go faster than I could say my vows. Boy am I glad we get to celebrate again next year! I felt like a princess that day, walking down the aisle with my father by my side, dodging goose poop (which might forever be on my dress!). I watched Blake cry that day as I walked down the aisle to become his bride, and I knew that I made the best decision, that I could have ever made. I'm glad that we made the decision to still get married on the day that we had planned and looked forward to for so long, and I'm also glad that our family and closest friends could share our special day with us.

My advice to you is do it, you will not regret it at all! You get to wear your dress a second time (now who can say that?!), you get to celebrate and have an even bigger party than you planned for, and not to mention that you can save up for the wedding that will cost a fortune! I regret nothing at all, and now I won't have to mourn the "loss of my originally planned wedding day." I couldn't wait another minute, yet alone another year, to marry the man of my dreams. I do not wish this situation on any future bride and hope that by next year things will be back to normal, because if they aren't, I'm cancelling everything next year since our originally wedding day was so amazing!! And maybe we can get some money back then!

I hope that this can be of help for those of you who have gone through this or who might be going through something similar to this. Just know that you are NOT alone, that was the one thing that kept me going through all of this and the fact that I got to marry my best friend. Just know that love is not cancelled and Corona didn't win!
