Westerville, Ohio: Eat, Play, Shop, Stay – They have it ALL!
Thinking about heading to Westerville, Ohio and you aren't sure what to do? You've come to the right place! Westerville has it all! A big city with a small-town feel, when you are in Westerville, you don't feel like you are in Ohio. It truly is a unique place for a fun getaway!
Need somewhere to stay?
Renaissance Columbus Westerville-Polaris Hotel is the place to be. Opened in 2018, this hotel is new to the Westerville scene, and it definitely has that new, hip and trendy feel! This was one of the nicest hotels that I've ever stayed in. They have all the amenities that you could need: pool, gym, walking trail, outdoor area and a great bar/restaurant – The Two-One and they even have live music! Not to mention, it’s conveniently located less than 10 minutes away from historic and charming Uptown Westerville.
Time to eat, where should you go?
If you’re looking for a fun, local coffee shop, then I highly recommendEspresso Air. This coffee shop has such a fun atmosphere, amazing coffee and delicious breakfast treats. When I order my coffee, I always order simple - a vanilla latte. Sometimes it’s hit or miss with a vanilla latte. BUT this was one of the best I've had in a long time. If only I could make them as tasty as Espresso Air, then life would be good. I guess I just need to make another trip to Westerville for some yummy coffee!
This next place is for all my sushi lovers! Fusian is located in Uptown Westerville, right across the street from the Westerville Library. I've never seen a restaurant as cool and unique as Fusian - instead of a Chipotle or Subway where you build your own sub or burrito bowls.... you build your own sushi! If you aren't sure how that goes, then you need to visit the nearest Fusian. I'm a HUGE fan of fresh sushi, and the fact that this is made to order, right in front of you and fully customizable, this is the best idea for a sushi restaurant I've ever seen. When you are done ordering the main dish you NEED to try their sticky rice dessert. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. If you like sweets, then you definitely want to try this tasty dessert!
What’s the third most important meal of the day? Dinner! If you are looking for dinner AND you love beer, make your way over to 101 Beer Kitchen. Along with a great atmosphere, their food is amazing! I cannot tell you how AMAZING their Crispy Lemon Chicken was! This is another dish that I cannot stop thinking about! My husband is a burger lover and had the 101 Burger, which he said was top-notch! On top of delicious food, they also have a huge selection of craft beers to choose from!
Looking for a unique spot to grab a good drink and listen to music?Good Vibes Winery is where you need to go! The name says it all. The minute I walked in I just felt good vibes (I know that sounds cheesy, but it's the truth). They make the wine right in the basement and have the nicest owner and staff. Of course, the wine is amazing! Each wine is named after a famous song. My favorite was a Moscato named "Take it Easy," and my husband really enjoyed the "La Bamba" malbec. I really liked this malbec too, which is impressive as I typically don’t enjoy red wines.
If you love to boutique shop, then make sure Stone and Sparrow is on your must stop list! Not only does this boutique have a cute atmosphere, but it also sells men’s clothing, which I feel is rare when shopping at boutiques!
Another unique shop is Abbey Rose Boutique, where there is literally something for everyone. The store represents a variety of sellers and when I say there is something for everyone, there really is! There is clothing, jewelry, furniture, books, decor and so much more!
This next stop is for my animal lovers. Captivating Canines, is a pet store with everything that you could possibly need for your furry friend. They even have adoption events on most Saturdays, so if you are wanting a new four-legged companion to share your life with, make sure to follow along on their social media pages to find out when they are having their next adoption event.
Like to run? The Columbus Running Company is the store for you! They have pretty much every shoe imaginable. When we walked into the store, I felt instantly inspired and was so tempted to purchase a new pair of running shoes and start running again!
Uptown Westerville has so many more stores, you can spend an entire afternoon shopping! Be sure to check out the Uptown Shops & Retail site for a complete guide to all the unique shops located in Uptown.
Looking for something to do?
The Westerville Florist has the cutest Flower Bar where you can create your own bouquet while enjoying a delicious cocktail that pairs perfectly with your arrangement. The owner, Candice, was super sweet and taught me how to make my own bouquet of flowers and even gave me some pointers on how to keep my flowers alive longer!
Flowers not really your thing BUT you want to make something cool? Head over to the Maker Space at Otterbein University where you can make anything you want. I mean ANYTHING! We made some fun pint glasses and even had a fun keychain of our pup made. What I thought was interesting was that anyone can come into the Maker Space and get to work, so if you have a DIY project you are working on or if you need something for a party or a gift, head to the Maker Space! Membership information can be found on their website.
The Westerville Library is not only a library, it’s also home to a local history center and museum that features multiple exhibits. The most fun and interesting exhibit is the Prohibition Exhibit. Did you know that the Prohibition movement began in Westerville? It was fascinating to learn that Westerville was a dry city up until 2004, which, if you really think about it, truly wasn't that long ago! This exhibit covers the history of prohibition in Westerville. While it is a small exhibit, it is packed with A LOT of information. The exhibit will be up and available to the public until Fall 2021, so if you are interested, I would go soon! You will not regret it.
Calling all farmer's market lovers! Westerville Farmers Market on Saturdays is a MUST! I don’t think I’ve seen so many amazing vendors at a farmers’ market before visiting Westerville. This is another place that has a vendor for anything you are looking for. There were a couple of coffee shops that had cute little set ups, which was a first for me. When I go to farmers markets, I am always on the lookout for dog treat vendors, and of course I found one! You don’t want to miss out on the Westerville Farmers Market, which goes on every Saturday, May through October, from 9AM-12PM.
Active and want to spend time outside?
Westerville has a variety of trails around the city, so if you are in the mood to bike or walk, there are plenty of trails to choose from. They also have a ton of historical plaques around the city, that tell you the history of the building(s). Click here for the map, so that you can go on a little adventure!
